Ector County ISD schools received the State's new accountability ratings. The new system evaluates schools and school districts in four areas and then designates them as either Met Standard or Improvement Required. If the school or school district misses the standard in any of the four areas it is labeled as Improvement Required. This is the first time this system has been used and the State has told local districts that it will be changed to some degree for next year, too.
"We believe this is an improvement to the state's accountability system," said acting superintendent Brian Moersch. "The system requires improvement and higher achievement for all students."
As a school district ECISD met all standards. A breakdown of all schools is included here. You will notice in the chart that elementary schools are evaluated on only three of the four standards (dropping post-secondary readiness.) Highlights from the report:
· 100% of schools met Index 4, indicating our student have the opportunity to be successful in college;
· Index 1 is most like previous years -- 85% of ECISD schools met this standard including all secondary schools;
· Reagan Elementary received one Academic Distinction
The schools rated as Met Standard are as follows: Odessa High School, Permian High School, Bowie Jr. High, Crockett Jr. High, Dowling Elementary, Gonzales Elementary, Hays Elementary, Ireland Elementary, Reagan Elementary, Blanton Elementary, Blackshear Elementary, Jordan Elementary, and Cavazos Elementary.
The schools rated as Improvement Required are as follows: New Tech Odessa, Bonham Jr. High, Hood Jr. High, Nimitz Jr. High, Ector Jr. High, Alamo Elementary, Austin Elementary, Burleson Elementary, Burnet Elementary, Cameron Elementary, Goliad Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary, Milam Elementary, Pease Elementary, Ross Elementary, San Jacinto Elementary, Travis Elementary, Zavala Elementary, Noel Elementary, Murry Fly Elementary, and LBJ Elementary.
The four areas that the state evaluates are: 1) Student Achievement which is a look at performance on standardized tests for all subjects and all students; 2) Student Progress which is a look at scores in reading, writing and math for 10 different student groups and the scores are categorized as having met or exceeded progress standards; 3) Closing Performing Gaps looks at scores of students who are economically disadvantaged and, as applicable, the campus’ or district’s two lowest performing ethnic groups from the year before; 4) Postsecondary Readiness examines graduations rates and rates of students graduating on Recommended and Distinguished/Advanced plans.
“The new accountability system gives us the opportunity to identify the areas of outstanding achievement and also identify the areas in which we need to modify curriculum to achieve outstanding outcomes for all students. The accountability data provides the needed information for our professional educators to assist in the growth of our students,” said board of trustees president Dr. Ray Beaty.
For the 2012-13 ratings, ECISD’s graduation rate is 78.9% for the Class of 2012 and the dropout rate is 2.6% for all students.
