Back to School 2020-2021

  • Today, Ector County ISD leaders announced the school district is changing the dates for phasing-in students who are returning to school in person. This means the vast majority of ECISD students will start the new school year learning online. The change is being made with safety as the primary concern.

District leaders meet regularly with local health officials to review health data for our Ector County community. We are watching three critical factors – Active Cases, Positivity Rates, and Currently Hospitalized. All of these statistics are available to the public on the Ector County website.

Because our local numbers are high, and we are considered a hot spot by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we are adjusting our Phase-In plan to bring students back to school more slowly. Bringing students back in smaller numbers over a longer period of time is safer, allows students and staff to learn the protocols and procedures, and gives us a chance to adjust as is needed.

To be clear, the first day of school for all ECISD students is Wednesday, August 12. The only exception to that is for Ector College Prep Success Academy, our in-district charter school, which creates its own calendar and starts classes on September 9.

The Phase-In schedule is for families who have chosen to send their students back to school in person. All other students will be learning online. The new Phase-In schedule now stretches past Labor Day.

Phase I – Families of students receiving special services will be contacted directly.

    Phase I Wednesday August 12

Phase II – August 26 – it is a date change but the students are the same

    Phase II Wednesday August 26

Phase III – September 1 – it is a date change but the students are the same

    Phase III Tuesday September 1

Phase IV – September 8 – it is a date change but the students are the same

    Phase IV Tuesday September 8

ECISD leaders will continue to monitor the presence of COVID-19 in our community. We do not want to limit students’ opportunity to be on campus any longer than necessary, however, we may adjust our Phase-In schedule further if necessary for health and safety. We know these changes impact many families’ plans and if further changes are made we will announce adjustments two weeks ahead of the Phase III and Phase IV start dates.
