    Chinese I G/TGrade Level: 8-12 Credit: 1 (Taught at OHS and PHS)

    Prerequisite/Notes:G/T Identification

    This is a beginning level course that will introduce thestudent to a variety of areas of Mandarin Chinese (simplified). In this course,the student will learn listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills throughactivities that are based on pedagogically proven methods of foreign languageinstruction. Grammar is introduced and practiced in innovative and interestingways with a variety of learning styles in mind. Culture is sprinkled throughoutthe course in an attempt to help the learner focus on the Chinese speakingworld and their culture, people, geographical locations and histories. Thecourse is aligned to national Foreign Language standards.

    Chinese II G/TGrade Level: 9-12 Credit: 1 (Taught at OHS and PHS)

    Prerequisite/Notes:G/T Identification; Chinese

    This course is a continuation of a beginning level coursethat will introduce the student to a variety of areas of language learning. Inthis course, the student will learn listening, speaking, reading and writingskills through activities that are based on pedagogically proven methods offoreign language instruction. Throughout the five units of material (dailyroutine, animals, hobbies, the body, and descriptions), students learn toexpress themselves using an ever increasing vocabulary, present tense verbs,articles, and adjectives. Grammar is introduced and practiced in innovative andinteresting ways with a variety of learning styles in mind. Culture issprinkled throughout the course in an attempt to help the learner focus on theChinese speaking world and their culture, people, geographical locations andhistories. The course is aligned to the national Foreign Language standards.
