At Hays STEAM Academy, we are empowering scholars to be life-long learners. Our goal is to have each of our students become world class leaders in an ever-changing and challenging world.
Our school provides the opportunity for scholars to experience rigorous curriculum through the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics; and we offer a one-way dual language program in Pre-K through 3rd grade, and late-exit bilingual program for 4th and 5th grades.

Curriculum
We host a community of diverse scholars who demonstrate exemplary personal character and social responsibility through intellectual, emotional, and physical excellence. Scholarly Behaviors (based on the work of Dr. Sandra Kaplan) and study skills through AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) are reinforced throughout our daily work. Our teachers embed Dr. Kaplan’s elements of Depth and Complexity into students' daily learning.

Course Offerings
Hays STEAM Academy serves students through a number of unique courses including: Music, Art, AVID, Dyslexia intervention, Speech, GT, Project Lead the Way, Engineering Is Elementary, Science Lab, Vivarium, Greenhouse, One-Way Dual Language (PreK-3rd), Late-Exit Bilingual (4th-5th), and Destination Imagination (DI).

Extracurricular Opportunities
Students at Hays STEAM Academy engage in learning outside of the regular classroom through Honor Choir, AVID Ambassadors, Family STEAM Nights, Destination Imagination (DI), Robotics and Coding, Science Lab, Gardening Club, Engineering, Rocket Launch, and Art Club.

Enrollment Requirements
Pre-K students do not have testing requirements, but must adhere to all other Choice School Contract requirements throughout the year after being selected through the lottery. K-5th grade students must qualify for admission by completing a nationally standardized achievement test.

Student Expectations
In order to remain enrolled, students must maintain a 95% attendance record, keep a minimum grade average of 80 in each class, exhibit satisfactory behavior, and demonstrate mastery on the STAAR assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are uniforms required? - Yes, students at Hays follow the district's Standardized Dress guidelines.
- How early can students arrive at school each morning? - Supervision is provided beginning at 7:00 AM.
- What opportunities do you provide for parents to be involved? - VIPS, PTA, STEAM Nights, Parent meetings, and Open House.
- What time does the school day end? - Our regular school day ends at 3:19. Students remaining for extended day choice classes are dismissed at 4:20.
- Are students required to stay for the extended day program? - No
- Is there tuition for PreK-4? - Yes, PreK-4 students who do not meet income eligibility requirements will pay a tuition fee.
