Student Expectations
ATTENDANCE:
Once a student is enrolled at Milam Fine Arts Academy, he/she will be required to attend for the entire school year unless removed due to attendance or behavior problems. Students accepted into the program do not have the option to withdraw from the extended hour from 3:10pm-4:10pm daily (Kinder-5th grade). Students are required to follow the state’s guidelines for attendance during the regular school day (Kinder-5th grade-7:30am-3:10pm and Pre-K 7:30-3:20), which mandates students to attend a minimum of 90% of the school days. By ECISD policy, it is the parent’s responsibility to contact the school each time the student is absent by 9:30 am. A campus attendance/discipline committee, following district policy, will determine credit for promotion and renewal in the program.
TARDIES:
All students are to be in the gym (classroom depending on COVID) at 7:30 am every morning (Pre-K will meet in their classroom). Teachers will escort their students to the classroom. Students must be on time and must be prepared to work with all necessary supplies and assignments each day. Students are considered tardy if they arrive in the building after 7:35 am. When a student arrives after 7:35 am, he/she will receive a tardy pass for admittance to class. Students having 10 or more unexcused tardies (without a doctor’s note) will meet with an administrator to discuss the student’s needs, and a Growth Plan/ Behavior Modification Plan (BMP) will be set for the current and/or following school year. A copy of the BMP will be sent home with the student. Parents will be contacted as needed. Also, if needed, the attendance/discipline committee will convene concerning students who are tardy 10 or more days during the school year to determine if a student will be allowed to return to Milam Fine Arts Academy for the 2022-2023 school year.EARLY PICK-UPS:
Students are expected to attend school the full school day, including the extended day classes from 3:10 pm-4:10 pm (Pre-K-7:30-3:20). This is the expectation every day. Students who leave early 10 times during the school year (without a doctor’s note), will meet with an administrator to discuss the student’s needs and a Growth Plan/BMP will be set for the current and/or following school year. Also, if needed, the attendance/discipline committee will convene concerning students who are picked up early 10 or more days during the school year, to determine if a student will be allowed to return to Milam Fine Arts Academy the 2022-2023 school year.
LATE PICK-UPS:
School is dismissed at 4:10 pm and parents/guardians are required to pick-up children by 4:25 pm. We understand that occasionally there may be emergencies that interfere with picking up your child by 4:25 pm. In this event, please contact the school immediately. Students not picked up on time 10 times during the school year will meet with an administrator to discuss the need for a Growth Plan and/or to discuss non-renewal for the following school year. The attendance/discipline committee will meet concerning students who are not picked up on time 10 or more days during the school year, to determine if a student will be allowed to return to Milam for the 2022-2023 school year.
CONDUCT:
All students are expected to conduct themselves in a dignified, respectful and orderly manner. Upon receiving a second discipline referral, a student’s continued participation in the magnet program will be reviewed. Students and parents will meet with an administrator to discuss the student’s needs and a Growth Plan/Behavior Modification Plan (BMP) will be implemented. Students could jeopardize their enrollment in Milam Fine Arts Academy for the next semester or for the 2022–2023 school year.
BEHAVIOR PLAN RULES:
If a student is on a Growth Plan or Behavior Plan (BMP) for any area of concern (behavior, tardies, absences, etc.), they must meet the Growth Plan guidelines for all areas. For example: If a student is on a growth plan for tardies, then he/she must meet the requirements for attendance, early pick-ups, late pick-ups and behavior. All of the requirements have been previously stated in this contract.
EXPECTATIONS:
Policies and procedures are put in place for the safety of all students. Parents/guardians agree to follow all morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up procedures, and expectations set forth by Milam. Parent support and cooperation is essential to the success of your child. Failure to abide by these expectations could jeopardize student enrollment in Milam Fine Arts Academy for the 2022–2023 school year. -
