Student Teacher Guidelines
-
Only requests from colleges, universities, alternative certification programs, and their affiliated program personnel will be accepted for student teaching and classroom observation. Requests from individual students via email or phone calls will not be considered.
Ector County ISD welcomes student teachers during the Fall and Spring semesters. To request placement for student teaching, please follow the guidelines below:
Instructions for Program Directors, Supervisors and Coordinators:
- Review these guidelines in full before starting the application process.
- The college university, or alternative certification program will submit the District Criminal Background Check. Placements will not be made until the background check has been submitted and cleared.
- All prospective student teachers seeking placement in ECISD are required to work with their program supervisor to complete and submit a Student Placement Application form. Once complete, the application must be forwarded to the program supervisor for review. The program representative will review, sign, and submit the application to the district on the student’s behalf. NOTE: When completing your application, please designate a contact person. Multiple contacts increase the chance of miscommunication and can cause untimely delays in accommodating requests.
- The application should be submitted by the program supervisor to: ECISD Talent Development Department via email to thelma.cordova@ectorcountyisd.org Program applications, if available, may also be included with requests; however, only requests using the ECISD application will be processed.
- Placement availability is limited; therefore, we ask placement requests be made as soon as possible. It is extremely helpful to have all requests for student teachers submitted at one time. This allows ample time for us to secure appropriate placements for each student.
- Students and programs are strongly discouraged from reaching out to principals or individual teachers requesting placement. All requests should go through the Talent Development department as outlined above. You are welcome to include requests for specific placements (campus, grade level). We will do our best to accommodate these requests, but placement is not guaranteed.
- Please share this information with other members of your program as well as with instructors and professors who may assign course requirements.
Educational Partners
We work primarily with the following universities and certification programs:
- Alternative Certification programs**
- Odessa College
- University of Texas of the Permian Basin
Other universities/programs on a case-by-case basis. Please contact our office for a program evaluation.
Alternative Certification programs, including online programs, must provide a local supervisor (we do not provide these). Student teachers may not videotape in Ector County ISD classrooms under ANY circumstances. If the program requires this, the application will be denied.
