What is Social Emotional Learning?
Social Emotional Learning or "SEL" is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
Social Emotional Learning advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. SEL can help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities.

Strategic Plan Project- Systematize Social Emotional Learning
ECISD will build a district-wide awareness and commitment to develop, implement and integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives districtwide acquiring and applying the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. Additionally, ECISD will develop an adult collective understanding and shared vision of SEL that creates systemic change where SEL can thrive and advance educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships.
ECISD SEL Learning Standards
EVERY person will learn, comprehend, apply, and excel in utilizing SELF-AWARENESS, SELF-MANAGEMENT, SOCIAL AWARENESS, RELATIONSHIP SKILLS, and RESPONSIBLE DECISION MAKING SKILLS.
ECISD Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Framework
A committee of staff members, community members, and parents worked to define and adopt a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Framework for ECISD. The committee made the decision to adopt the Collaborative for Academic and Social Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework for ECISD. The unique needs of our ECISD students, teachers, staff members, and the community will continually be evaluated and considered. If the need to update our framework is identified, the framework will be adjusted to reflect this need.
