Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Morris, and I am the Dyslexia Therapist at Milam Magnet.  The majority of my day is spent servicing students with dyslexia and students who need instructional assistance based on the five essential components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  My goal is to provide my students with the tools they need to be successful readers, so they will be motivated to engage in reading for many different purposes.

I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education  from Texas Tech University, and I've been an educator for 26 years. My minor is in sociology, and I have a reading certification as well. In addition, I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist.

My teaching career began with Carroll ISD in Southlake, Texas, where I taught fourth grade for four years.  After returning home to Odessa, I taught second grade at Reagan Magnet for ten years, and I'm proud to say that this is my thirteenth year at Milam!

When I'm not busy working on "school stuff", I enjoy spending time with my family and my  dachshund, traveling, reading, and Mixbooking (online photo scrapbooking).
