Student Assistive Services Counselor- Rachel Hurford, MA, LPC

I have worked for ECISD for about 12 years. I started as an ESL Teacher and served at several elementary schools for 5 years before moving into counseling. I was also a guidance counselor at Permian High School for 5 years. Then I moved into the SAS Department last year.

An SAS Counselor is a trained mental health and counseling professional who helps students and staff work through obstacles or barriers that are keeping them from being successful in school or life. The SAS counselor will deal primarily with social or emotional aspects when working with students and staff. The counselor will help empower students and staff work on difficult issues that need to be addressed for them to make positive changes. I help students develop social skills and use healthy coping skills to assist them in daily functioning within the classroom. I also serve as a supportive staff member that encourages and motivates faculty through the difficulties of teaching and day to day life.

“A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I live in, or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”Forest E. Witcraft
