Board of Trustees Names Lone Finalist for Superintendent

Dr. Keeley Boyer in line to become just second female superintendent in ECISD, the first in more than 100 years

The Ector County ISD Board of Trustees held a special board meeting on February 7. A recap of the agenda is below.

 

1.    Roll Call.

2.    Verification of compliance with open meetings requirements.

3.    There was no public comment.      

4.    A motion was made to postpone Item 4A, the naming of a Lone Finalist, until next week. The motion was defeated by a 5-2 vote. Trustees then moved to closed session to interview a superintendent applicant and to discuss the possibility of naming a sole finalist for the superintendent’s position.

A.    After returning from the closed session, Trustees voted unanimously (5-0) to name Dr. Keeley Boyer the Sole Finalist for the superintendent position. Dr. Boyer has been serving as the interim superintendent since August. Before accepting that assignment, she had been ECISD’s Chief of Schools since September 2021. As Chief of Schools, Dr. Boyer led a team of three principal supervisors responsible for the effective oversight and development of ECISD’s principals. Under her guidance, the aspiring leaders program and principal pipeline resulted in the placement of internal candidates in all 11 principal vacancies in 2022 and 6 of 7 vacancies in 2024. She holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership & Policy from the University of Texas, completed the Cooperative Superintendency Program from the University of Texas, the Forum for Education Leadership, the University of Virginia’s Partnership for Leadership in Education, and has been attending Holdsworth Center’s Leadership Collaborative for the past two years. Dr. Boyer joined ECISD after working as a Regional Superintendent for Portland Public Schools for three years. In that role, Dr. Boyer supervised a region of 35 schools – elementary, middle schools, and 4 high schools. Prior to her time in Portland, she served as the School Support Officer managing, coaching and developing principals at 15 campuses (elementary, middle, and high schools) in Houston ISD. During her time in Houston ISD, she was a high school assistant principal and a middle school principal and earned HISD’s Secondary Principal of the Year in 2017.

      By law, the Trustees must now wait 21 days before finalizing a contract with Dr. Boyer.
