H-E-B, City of Odessa celebrate Noel Elementary
School collected nearly 15,000 plastic bags in recycling challenge
The students and staff at Noel Elementary took the challenge seriously!
In March, hundreds of H-E-B stores kicked off the annual School Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge, with a record-breaking 792 schools joining the effort. On Friday, April 11, H-E-B and City of Odessa officials hosted a recycle ‘read in’ to celebrate Noel Elementary for collecting nearly 15,000 bags! Appreciative of H-E-B’s continuous support of schools, Noel joins this competition each year, creating a classroom competition, counting the bag totals each week, and getting families and friends involved in the effort. Well done, Noel Elementary!
Odessa Mayor Cal Hendrick read the students a story about recycling, and H-E-B reps gave each student a free reusable bag as the retailer challenges the community to continue those recycling efforts. H-E-B is encouraging residents to come together to clean up the streets of Odessa through recycling programs, the use of reusables, and retailer drop-off kiosks for plastic bags.
The students’ efforts earned them quite a bit of new coverage! Check out First Alert 7, ABC Big 2
