Esteban Zubia is first from ECISD to compete at national Academic Decathlon contest

Esteban Zubia, a senior at New Tech Odessa, just broke new ground for our school district, and when your district is 100+ years old, like ECISD, that is a remarkable thing.

Last week Esteban returned from the United State Academic Decathlon (USAD) Nationals – the first ECISD student to be invited to this national competition. He earned the invitation to the event in Garden Grove, California, based on his individual score in the state competition where he won the Scholastic Division.

He competed in 7 different subjects: Math, Science, Social Science, Economics, Music, Literature, and Art.  He also delivered a prepared speech, and participated in a Super Quiz.

It was a success. Esteban earned 3rd place medals in Economics and Science.

For some perspective: There were 30 states represented at the national competition. A total 139 schools and 689 students.

We are ECISD Proud of Esteban, the NTO team, and coaches who all played critical role in his advancement and success.
