    How to Apply for a Job Opening


    Thank you for your interest in employment with the Ector County Independent School District. To complete an application, please read the information below and follow the steps indicated:


    Step 1: Application


    To be considered as an applicant, you must provide the following:


    • A completed online application with references


    Please note:


    • Documents such as transcripts, resumes and certificates will be submitted electronically with the application though not required until employment offer is made-please note that documents have to be in one of the following formats: pdf, rtf or txt, and Microsoft Word
    • Completed applications will be kept on file for one year


    Ector County Independent School District must obtain three references for each candidate considered for employment. Certificated applicants should provide information that includes their most recent principal or cooperating teacher, college supervisor’s names, or other educational references deemed appropriate including current telephone numbers and email addresses. Classified applicants should provide the names of the three most recent employers including the supervisors’ names, current telephone numbers, and email addresses. Failure to provide accurate information will result in a delay in the employment process

    Step 2: Hiring Process:


    Once you have completed the application process, your file will be reviewed by the Human Resources Department/hiring supervisor/campus principal and considered for employment. A formal screening interview may be scheduled either in person or by telephone.


    If you are recommended for employment, a director of the Human Resources department will contact you to offer the position and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork. As part of the employment process, it will be necessary for you to complete a fingerprint clearance through the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Your name will be submitted to the State Board for Educators’ Certification. If the Human Resources staff receives a request that you be fingerprinted, you will be contacted by Human Resources with further instructions. The total cost for fingerprinting is $50.00, paid by applicant. Fingerprinting and HR paperwork must be complete before your official start date. You may obtain more information at www.sbec.state.tx.us. The Ector County Independent School District will process a background check through a private agency. A drug test is required of every new employee hired.

    Step 3: Orientation

    Certified employees must attend new teacher orientation in their first year of employment with the District. If you have questions regarding orientation information, please contact the Professional Development office at (432) 456-8509, Brandy Ferrer.


    All new employees are required to attend a Benefits Orientation session following clearance of drug test and criminal history background checks. You will be scheduled for an orientation by an HR representative when you complete your paperwork with Human Resources.

    Teachers with an out-of-state certificate must apply for a Texas Certificate.
    Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:


    • Hold a bachelor's degree
    • Present official college transcripts
    • Present a copy of the valid out-of-state teaching certificate
    • Complete TEA application form requesting Out of State Review of Credentials and one-year certificate
    • Pay fees for Out of State Review of Credentials
    • Apply for a one-year certificate*
    • Pass the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES)


    *A one-year Texas certificate entitles the teacher to teach in the designated field(s) for one year from the application date. At the end of the year specified, the teacher must have taken and passed the TExES. There is a test to cover each teaching field/endorsement. Failure to complete the TExES requirements during the validity period of the one-year certificate could result in termination of employment.

    Upon verification of passing all segments of the appropriate TExES the employee MUST apply for a Texas Certificate by:


    • Completing an online application form
    • Submitting official verification with Texas Education Agency of having passed the TExES for the assigned teaching fields
    • Submit an online payment with Texas Education Agency to cover the fee for the certificate(s)


    The fees applicable to certification requirements must be in the form of a cashier's check or money order. They are to be made payable to: State Board for Educator Certification or SBEC.


    • $180.00 - Evaluation of credentials by SBEC (Nonrefundable fee)
    • $52.00 - Issuance of one year probationary certificate based on Out-of-state credentials


    (Nonrenewable one year certificate for teaching assignment purposes)


    Alternative Certification Program


    The Texas Alternative Certification Program allows students who hold a bachelor’s degree in a subject area besides education to earn their teaching certificate in one year. The program uses workshops, internships, and field activities to provide students with the training and experience to become certified teachers.


    TEA states, these programs are located in universities, school districts, education service centers, and private entities. A list of approved programs are available on the TEA website. Only programs found on this list may recommend an individual for a Texas educator certificate.


    Applicants working with Alternative Certification Programs, must be eligible for a Statement of Eligibility (SOE).
