Ector County Independent School District participates in a comprehensive testing program to assess student needs and measure academic progress. The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS); State of Texas Assessment for Academic Readiness (STAAR), including End of Course; Cognitive Abilities Test; NNAT2; and Iowa Test of Basic Skills are coordinated and distributed from the testing office.
Students also benefit from specialized testing provided by the coordinated efforts of the departments of Curriculum and Instruction, Bilingual, Special Education, Advanced Academic Services, and Vocational Education.
The Testing Department coordinates the administration, distribution, and processing of state-mandated exams and other specialized tests used for Gifted/Talented identification, BE/ESL placement, grade placement, credit recovery, and credit acceleration.

Campuses receive training, support and technical assistance to ensure successful and effective assessment implementation. In addition, the Assessment Department monitors test administration and security procedures. Testing irregularities are reported to proper authorities, including the Texas Education Agency.
