It’s simple math, 20 X 50 = 1,000. But the gesture is so much bigger than that. On Monday morning representatives from the Odessa Sam’s Club visited Burnet Elementary to deliver 20, $50 reward cards to teachers at the school, part of Wal-Mart’s Teacher Rewards Program.
The employees at our local Sam’s Club chose Burnet to be the recipient this year and at a staff meeting Sam’s Club managers Valerie Anderson and Isaac Nelson randomly drew the names of 20 teachers to receive the cards. Sam’s Club also brought a cake from the store’s bakery as a gift for the staff.
“We are proud to honor our community’s teachers, who give time and often their own money to ensure our students have everything they need to be successful throughout the school year,” said Ms. Anderson.
To show their appreciation Burnet’s staff created a big “thank you” card and a “thank you” banner to send back to Sam’s Club.
“It is really exciting to get this recognition,” said Burnet principal Tristan Specter. “We are thankful to Sam’s Club for picking us, and the donation is going to mean a lot of extra supplies for our kids.”
This is the fifth year Wal-Mart will donate up to $4.5 million to provide 90,000 teachers across the United States with reward cards to help offset classroom expenses at the beginning of the school year. You can find more pictures from the presentation at our EctorCountyISD Facebook page.
