District works on Community Engagement Guidelines

House Bill 5 places priority on community engagement

Last spring the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 5 which requires Community Engagement to be considered when schools and school districts are rated each year. The interesting aspect of this is the legislation leaves it up to each community to build its own definition of and standards for measuring engagement.

ECISD began gathering input in February when district officials hosted a series of community meetings designed to recruit volunteers to join any of the nine state-defined sub-committees.

The nine sub-committees, which are listed here, met several times. These nine sub-committees created a list of criteria on which Ector County ISD can be rated on each of the nine measures. That information is also outlined here.
