174 Power Global presents $25,000 to Education Foundation

Solar energy is joining the energy sector in Odessa, and the company brought extra support for Ector County ISD schools in the form of a $25,000 donation to the Education Foundation of Odessa.

Tuesday morning representatives from 174 Power Global and its mother company Hanwha Energy presented the money to members of the Education Foundation.

“We are very honored that they selected us,” said Celeste Potter, Education Foundation of Odessa Director. “This is $25,000 more than we had budgeted that will go into the school district. It will probably go towards grants and supporting specific programs.”

“Our company is continuously seeking opportunities for us to expand our offerings and move further into not only the renewable energy market, but also to carry out our social responsibilities as a responsible corporate citizen” says Doo-hyung Ryu, CEO of Hanwha Energy. “We hope this can help improve quality of life for the Odessa community.”

174 Power Global is building a solar project in Ector County called Oberon Solar. This project will be one of the biggest solar power projects in Texas and solidify the state’s position as a leader in renewable energy. Oberon will deliver power for the equivalent of 50,000 Texas homes annually and will generate over $30-million in local property tax revenue over the project life. Oberon also operates a solar project in Reeves County near McCamey.

The Education Foundation of Odessa provides a new and innovative source of funding to support the school district’s educational plan. The Foundation does not attempt to replace lost state funding, nor does it attempt to take the place of the district’s operating budget. When considering the level of funding required to educate students, the Foundation can expect only to provide funds for those projects and activities that go beyond the normal classroom experience. Such initiatives provide enrichment, research opportunities, teacher training, intervention and prevention strategies and extend the educational effort.

The mission of the Education Foundation is to create opportunities for education in Ector County ISD. Our vision is that every student in ECISD will be school-ready, college-ready, work-ready…WORLDREADY!
