  1. Action items

  1. Trustees voted 7-0 to approve the 2024-25 K-5 attendance boundary for Zavala Elementary School. This action results in several things: it dissolves the affiliation between Zavala Elementary and Travis Elementary that began in 2018 for accountability reasons; it means, beginning in August 2024, all students in the new attendance zone will attend Zavala throughout their elementary school years; and it means Travis Elementary will be repurposed. The determining factor in this decision is very low enrollment at Travis. Data shows only 180 students live in that attendance area. Combining the two schools into one will create cost savings of approximately $566,000 next year.

As a result of the recent school board actions both Travis and Burleson Elementary will be repurposed, and the District’s Choice Schools Application period will be re-opened to allow families from those two schools to apply for a Choice School, if they want to. This decision means the timeline for the Choice School Lottery will be moved back to March 25, and eligible families will be notified on March 27.
