OPT is a 15-month alternative certification program. OPT starts with the Enrollment Period is January, provides in-person, hands-on support through five weeks of Pre-Service Training from May to July, and then eligible candidates enter the classroom as soon as next school year in August 2021. Program participants can become certified in Core Subject EC-6, Core Subjects 4-8, English Language Arts and Reading 7-12, Math 7-12, or Science 7-12. More information about the program structure and requirements can be found on their website under Training and Cost.
Intensive support is provided through the entire program. Whether it’s through targeted test prep, in-person teaching and training, or ongoing coaching and feedback, program participants receive consistent support from district Talent Development Coaches, Instructional Specialists, and Mentor Teachers. We focus on the fundamentals and ensure participants have the support and resources needed to grow. Visit our website to learn more about our Support Staff.
There are key qualifications required to be eligible. Because it is an alternative route certification program, interested applicants must meet the following requirements:

- Have a 2.5 or better GPA (overall or in the last 60 credit hours of your undergraduate degree)
- Demonstrate content area proficiency via credit hours or subject area PACT exam
- Provide official copies of transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended
