Veteran coach, assistant athletic director tabbed to be new Executive Director of Athletics in ECISD

Tracey Borchardt began her career in ECISD in 1989 as a physical education teacher and head coach at Crockett Middle School. Little did she know it would lead her to become the first female executive director of athletics in the school district’s history. Coach Borchardt’s hiring was approved unanimously by the Ector County ISD Board of Trustees Tuesday night.

Photo of Tracey Borchardt “I am extremely excited and very honored to be given the opportunity to be the Executive Director of Athletics for ECISD,” said Coach Borchardt.  “I have been in ECISD for thirty-two years as a teacher, coach, girl's athletic coordinator and most recently an assistant athletic director overseeing all the sports in Odessa.

After six years at Crockett MS, Coach Borchardt moved to Odessa High School in 1996 and spent 21 years there teaching PE, Health, and AVID and coaching the Lady Bronchos cross country and track & field teams. In addition to being the Head Cross County and Track & Field coach, she led the girls’ athletic programs as the campus athletic coordinator for 16 years. Her teams contended for district titles each year and her athletes regularly advanced to area and regional competitions. For the past two-and-a-half years, Coach Borchardt has been in the role of ECISD assistant athletic director.

“I feel very confident leading the athletic program as we move forward,” Coach Borchardt added.  “It has been a blessing that I have been able to surround myself with great mentors throughout my career that have guided me in this dream opportunity. Exciting things are ahead for all of ECISD, and I am proud to be leading the charge in athletics.”

“Tracey is a great fit for this job,” she said. “She was a very successful head coach and campus athletic coordinator, and she is well-respected by coaches throughout ECISD and around Texas. Her knowledge of the district and West Texas, her understanding of the role athletics plays in developing well-rounded graduates, and her commitment to excellence will give our coaches and our students opportunities to thrive.”

Coach Borchardt is a product of ECISD schools having attended Gonzales Elementary, Nimitz Middle School and Permian High School. She earned her degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin. She will officially start as the executive director of athletics on July 1.
