ECISD stands front and center at national conference on teacher apprenticeships

Ector County ISD stood front and center during the National Convening on Registered Apprenticeships in Teaching, a sold-out conference with representation from all 50 states and Washington D.C.

ECISD was a highlighted session, as Executive Director of Talent Development Jaime Miller showcase ECISD’s efforts in developing not only a Registered Teacher Apprenticeship but also earning recognition for pioneering a Registered Principal Apprenticeship. ECISD holds the distinction of being the second in the nation, and the first in Texas and the first among school districts, to establish such a principal apprenticeship program.

“It was a privilege for us to present and share our initiatives with educational organizations nationwide,” said Miller.

The Registered Apprenticeship Program for Teachers is a unique initiative aimed at revolutionizing teacher education and professional learning, while also addressing the financial barriers associated with pursuing a bachelor's degree. The ECISD Registered Apprentice Program will provide aspiring teachers with a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience. Unlike traditional student teaching programs which last only a few weeks, apprentices will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced teachers for a period of years while they are in school, gaining valuable classroom experience, mentorship, and developing practical skills that are essential for success in teaching.

ECISD’s principal apprenticeship is a high-quality career pathway where principal candidates are in a full-time, paid position while they gain invaluable job experience. Approved and validated by the U.S. Department of Labor, ECISD’s registered apprenticeship program will provide mentoring, on-the-job training, principal licensure (and, typically, an advanced degree), and professional learning to ensure aspiring leaders have the skills and knowledge necessary to be effective.
