All across Texas, January is School Board Recognition Month. Ector County ISD is proud to join the 1,025 school districts in our state in saying ‘thank you’ to these hard-working volunteer servants.
“Our school board members shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our district, without pay. Their goal is always focused on the future success of the children in our district,” Superintendent Dr. Scott Muri said.
Educating children is a complex, demanding responsibility: ensuring that schools are available, qualified teachers are in place, buildings are safe, and resources are provided. It’s a responsibility that locally elected board members generously accept. They commit to read reports, learn the laws, understand the community’s needs, set thoughtful goals, and wisely handle the district’s financial resources.
School board members are the link between the community and classroom. The ECISD Board of Trustees is responsible for an annual budget of $300 million, 34,000 students, 4,200 employees, and 44 campuses.
Board members serving Ector County ISD are: Dr. Donna Smith, Mrs. Delma Abalos, Mrs. Tammy Hawkins, Mrs. Carol Gregg, Mr. Doyle Woodall, Dr. Steve Brown, and Mr. Nelson Minyard.
“It’s more important than ever before that communities support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow. Please take a moment and tell school board members ‘thanks for caring about our children and giving so much to our community.’ Let them know we support them and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated,” Dr. Muri said.
Join us in celebrating our school board members throughout the month of January.
