"We recognized a couple of years ago that 65% of our children are not kindergarten-ready when they start school," said ECISD Superintendent Dr. Muri said. "Imagine starting a race behind the others racers. We knew we needed to do something but we did not have the capacity for the three-year-old program. The YMCA really stepped up to join us."

Youth development is one of the core values of the Odessa Family Y so, YMCA Chief Executive Officer Crissy Media said forming this partnership with ECISD Is a great fit. "It's something that has been a passion of the Odessa Family, to enhance early childhood education and kindergarten readiness so we are very excited about this opportunity.

""It's like swiping right and finding your soulmate," Ms. Media added.

The three-year-old Pre-K program is half-day in the morning. To accommodate working parents, the Odessa Y Learning Center will offer childcare options before and after school hours. The YMCA Pagewood Learning Center will use Frog Street 3 Curriculum, matching what ECISD offers at its early education centers at Carver and Lamar.
